Swix is a Norwegian company manufacturing ski wax, ski poles and sportswear. The company belongs to the Ferd AS investment company and has their headquarters in Lillehammer.
Swix was founded in Sweden in 1946 by Börje Gabrielsson, based on the Swedish skier Martin Matsbo's experience of ski wax.
Swix was the first manufacturer of wax for modern skis and takes a scientific approach to their development work.Their wax is color-coded by type of wax, a practice that has since been adopted by the entire wax industry.
Production was originally based in Sweden, and subsequently in Norway near Oslo.
In 1964, all production was transferred to Norway. In 1974, Swix purchased Liljedahls Skistavfabrikk in Lillehammer bringing the brand under the Swix name, this resulted in the company becoming a leading manufacturer of ski poles. Swix was bought by Ferd in 1978. Finally, Swix purchased the Norheim company in 1989 and has used it to become established and grow within the sportswear market.
