Origin of the Optimus brand

Founded in 1899 in Sundyberg, Swedish company Optimus was first known as C.R.Nybergs Lödlampfabrik and manufactured blowtorches and other machinery as well as a small range of cooking stoves. The company was acquired in 1922 by Max Sievert and the name was soon changed to Sievert AB. The new firm began production of the Svea 123 camping stove in 1955 and this model is considered the first compact gas stove suitable for backpacking. Another company takeover followed in 1969 when Sievert AB was acquired by Optimus which continues to manufacture the Svea 123 and today, eighty years later, the iconic stove remains one of the most popular portable cookers for camping and hiking.

All cooking stoves are lightweight and easy to stow away and are ideal for weekends in the hills or climbing the highest peaks.
