The Origin of Keen - An Evolution of Design

Martin Keen, founder of Keen Footwear and passionate sailor, came up with the concept of a comfortable and functional sandal design which would be suitable to wear on a sailboat, being fully aware open-toed sandals are not suitable. After working as a designer for the industry's top players, like Timberland and Saucony, Martin Keen took on the venture of creating a hybrid-designed sandal suitable to wear outdoors and on a sailboat. In 2003, he created Keen and within 3 years it became a revolutionary footwear company.

Keen's Brand Highlights "Hybrid Care"

After moving operations from Alameda, California to Portland, Oregon, Keen added cold weather footwear to its product portfolio. The market welcomed Keen's new shoe lines, which made the company expand its manufacturing line towards casual footwear. Keen's brand stands for quality, integrity, health, caring and pioneering. All materials used by Keen provide its products with cutting-edge functionality, performance, and ergonomics. The company focuses on disrupting traditional footwear by combining traditional products with progressive design, adapting to its users' versatile requirements. Soon after the company's launch in 2003, a tsunami hit Southeast Asia, killing almost 300,000 people making Keen include disaster relief into its brands' culture. "Hybrid Care" became a new arm of Keen, identifying with the concept of business with a conscience. Since its' inception, the company made sure it had the community at its centre focus, building the production factory close to its headquarters to ensure more jobs to local residents.
