Origin of Garmin

Founded in 1989 by Gary Burrell and Min Kao (hence the name – Gar-Min), Garmin's first product was a GPS navigator for use in the marine industry, allowing vessels to navigate more safely and more efficiently. This breakthrough that this technology offered led to high demand from the outdoors-loving public, and soon spurred the company to further develop the concept into handheld GPS navigation devices for hikers, sailors, cyclists, and practically anyone who needed to be able to know their precise position.

Strengths of Garmin

A Solid Foundation

With its rich background in automotive, aviation, and marine industries, Garmin has been able to draw on its experience in producing ultra-reliable, rugged and yet high-tech devices to produce a diverse range of sophisticated wearables that perform when you need them to. While they still offer competent GPS navigators, today's Garmin is more likely to be a GPS-enabled activity tracker, a smartwatch, or even a combination of both.

Reliable Precision

As one of the longest-standing GPS navigation specialists, Garmin stands out above the rest due to its excellent battery life in addition to its powerful ability to pinpoint your exact location. It may just be the size of a smartphone or it may even look nothing more than a watch on your wrist, but behind this sophisticated piece of tech lie decades of research and development into providing accuracy when you need it most.

Garmin Bestsellers

Arguably among Garmin's most popular and useful products, the Forerunner series offers an extremely versatile range of running watches that go from affordable with the basic features of GPS and activity tracking to very high-end models that come with touch screen access to powerful information gathering tools like barometric altimeters and accelerometers. For something a little less focused on fitness and more well rounded, the affordable yet powerful VivoActive 3, which is rich in features like mobile payment, or the elegant VivoMove, which could easily be taken for a high-end timepiece, are both excellent choices from the Garmin range.
