The Origins of Deuter

Founded in Germany in 1898 by Hans Deuter, the company's first products included mail bags for the Bavarian Royal Mail. After gaining experience in using durable fabrics and rugged designs to create horse blankets, saddle bags and satchels, they began to expand their range to include luggage and backpacks for explorers and other travellers, eventually equipping many major German expeditions to remote areas.

Deuter's Strengths

Hiking Perfection

Deuter's main strengths lie in its long tradition of engineering possibly the most reliable range of backpacks out there. They achieve this by not compromising on attention to detail and by ensuring that only the absolute essentials go into the design of these backpacks. Don't expect the gaggle of pointless features and extras that tend to weigh down many other backpacks, these packs were built for the serious trekker.

Comfort through Technology

Deuter offers a number of innovative systems that are designed to optimise your comfort while hiking. The Aircomfort system offers a light and perfect fit that provides freedom of movement in combination with a ventilated mesh back that facilitates air flow, keeping you cool and dry. For treks that take you that bit further afield, the well-ventilated Aircontact system is a solid partner as its stable internal frame ensures that the load is transferred to your hips, meaning a more balanced load for your back and less weight on your shoulders.

Brand Bestsellers

A Versatile Range

While Deuter has recently branched out to include some excellent sleeping bags and other accessories, its range of backpacks remains its star player, and what a range it is. With its close cooperation with real-life outdoor sportspeople, it has managed to ensure that every type of hiker, and even biker, is covered. If you need a backpack for short day hikes or something that will serve as a summit pack, then check out the Speed Lite range. Lightweight and offering excellent comfort with adjustable and breathable straps in addition to a ventilating mesh, you will hardly know it's there.

Long-Range Performance

For those longer treks, it is tough to see how anything can beat Deuter's Aircontact range. Despite the almost cavernous space inside, these versatile backpacks incorporate innovative design features like padded and ingeniously flexible hip straps, in addition to the Aircontact, Aircomfort and Vari Quick systems, meaning that your backpack will be doing a lot of the work for you, giving you the freedom to enjoy your trek.
