Brand history

Burton was established by American Jake Burton Carpenter in 1977. His first snowboard was created in his garage using minimal tools as the company did not have the funds to acquire the correct machinery. In order to give his relatively unknown product a boost, Burton campaigned for ski resorts to allow snowboarders use of their facilities. This tactic proved to be a successful one and soon placed Burton and his products on the map. The company expanded rapidly as the popularity of snowboarding increased. Burton began moving to the international market from 1980 onwards with the establishment of the company's European offices in Austria. Burton also invested in many other sport related companies and offer customers a true complete brand experience.
