Founded in 2001, Anon Optics is a newer player on the slopes. However, this hides a formidable pedigree. Anon is the spawn of Burton Snowboards, the original designer and manufacturer of snowboards. Anon was conceptualised with one thing in mind: to give their pro team a competitive advantage on the international circuit. They wanted a goggle that would cope with any condition thrown at it, both in terms of strength and durability and in terms of crystal-clear vision. Known particularly for its Magno-Tech quick-change lens system in the M1, M2, and M3 range, as well as its popular Deringer and Relapse ranges, Anon is a golden child within the industry.
Lens quality is at the heart of Anon Optics. Quick lens changes are crucial in competitive snowboarding, and Anon has focused much of its creative energy in designing and developing Magna-Tech. Unlike the clip systems used by rivals, this patented technology harnesses the natural power of magnets for a wickedly firm grip that won't budge in the action, and that doesn't require fumbling and stress to change. Also patented is the Sonar lens, which was developed by German optical lens manufacturer Zeiss. The result is razor-sharp contrast tailored to the shifting palette of the snow.
This visual quality is harmonized with extensive anti-fog design, including fog-resistant lens coating and airflow tech. This results in a self-clearing anti-fog system. The airflow reduces the build-up of perspiration, whilst a patented fleecy Outlast lining is waiting to absorb any that does. Anon also supplies face masks that add an extra layer of fog defence by channelling warm air away from the lens. The idea is that this is a goggle that works with you, so that you can forget all about them and concentrate purely on your moves.
Although Anon's focus has been goggles, the brand also offers a range of helmets. Designed to offer superior protection whilst fitting snugly with goggles and masks, Anon's helmets continue with the ventilation trend. Working in tandem with the anti-fog tech, the ventilation system aims to keep you cool and fresh.
Anon offers a male and female range, as well as both a kids' and junior selection. Different levels of technical complexity have allowed Anon to straddle the market, with entry level goggles and advanced models available. Different coloured lenses are aimed at getting the best performance on different terrains and weather conditions, so check where you're headed before you buy. Anon goggles fit with most helmets, and are particularly designed to fit with Anon helmets.
